L-R Kevin Murray, (Queen’s Sport) Rachel Mc Cann (Queen’s Student Bursary Athlete) and Ben Nelson from Deep River Rock (Events Team) launch this year’s race

Deep RiverRock Queen’s 5k ‘Race Round the River’ get ready for the 5k race of the year!

The Deep RiverRock Queen’s 5k ‘Race Round the River’ will take place on Wednesday 6th April 2022.  The main event will kick off at 7.30pm with the 3k ‘warm up race’ starting at the earlier time of 6.50pm.

This prestigious race is back in the calendar for 2022 after a two-year gap and it’s sure to be another great night of racing along the river.  This year race is again supported by principal partner Deep River Rock with additional funding from Belfast City Council – Support for Sport Fund this year and again for 2022 it is recognised by Athletics NI as the NI and Ulster Championship 5k Race.

Kevin Murray, Participation Sport Manager at Queen’s said, “We are very excited to see this event back on the calendar and our staff, students and the wider community will have the opportunity to take part in one of the best events for sport at the University.  We have allowed entries for the 2020 race to be transferred across to this year and therefore new entries will be limited due to the capacity of the course.  We  encourage runners of all abilities to sign up early to avoid disappointment and be part of one of the best 5k races in Northern Ireland.  The 3k ‘warm up race’ also offers a shorter route for junior athletes and participants of all abilities to get involved in a special night of running along the banks of the River Lagan in Belfast”

Captain of Queen’s Athletics Club, Catriona Edington commented: “As a club we work very hard with University Staff, race partners and our student volunteers to put on a race that everyone enjoys and feels part of the Queen’s community.  This year all entrants will receive a specially branded free t-shirt and post-race hospitality available after the race in the main hall of the PEC. Catriona added, “After the disappointment of the last two year’s we look forward to welcoming runners across Northern Ireland and beyond back to Queen’s for a special night of racing’

Shane Mc Quaid, Marketing Manager, Deep RiverRock said: “We are delighted to offer continued support to this fantastic ‘Race Round the River’ event at Queen’s University and we are thrilled to see this excellent event coming back this year. As always, Deep RiverRock will be on hand on the day to keep racers hydrated with our 100% Recycled Bottles - which is a real Nice One!.”
