Queen’s Sport: Leading the Green Charge

Institutional Pride Meets Environmental Commitment

Over the past year, staff from Queen’s Sport have been rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck into something a little different from their usual day-to-day - cultivating their very own allotment space at the PEC. Initially funded by Queen’s Sport and following a successful application to the Queen’s Green Fund, what started as a simple gardening initiative has grown into a hub for learning, wellbeing, and collaboration.

Colleagues of all gardening experience levels have been developing new skills, from planting and composting to creating pollinator-friendly wildflower beds. The allotment has also encouraged staff to get creative in the kitchen, experimenting with recipes and sharing meals made from the produce they’ve grown.

Beyond the personal benefits, the project strengthens teamwork, supports sustainable practices, and provides a relaxing green space where staff can unwind and connect. It’s a great example of how a small idea can have a big impact - for people, the workplace, and the environment.
