9 Queen's University Belfast Athletes Selected for 2014 TEAM NI Commonwealth Games Squad
Nine Queen’s University Belfast Student athletes have been named in the Northern Ireland Team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow representing Swimming, Athletics, Netball, Judo and Badminton.

Please be aware Queen's Sport will be closed Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th July for the Bank Holiday Weekend
As part of our ongoing upgrade programme, only two cages are in operation in the Strength and Conditioning Suite from 2 July. Four cages will be removed, serviced, powder coated and installed in new area on 10-11 July.
Please also be aware that both the current Strength and Conditioning Suite and Free Weights Area will be closed from 9-11 July. This closure is due to installation of new equipment and final work to be completed. Both areas will re-open on the 14 July (centre is closed 12 & 13 July)

Queen's Sport will host the 2014 Swimathon from 21st-24th March. The Swimathon is a nationwide swimming challenge that encourages swimmers up and down the UK to swim a variety of challenge distances at their local pool and raise money for charity. Over the past 27 years of Swimathon, more than half a million swimmers have taken part, raising over £40million for charitable causes. For more details on how to get involved click here.
Can you spare a few hours to help at this year's Swimathon? Duties such as helping with registration of swimmwers, lane counting, time keeping etc. All volunteers will receive a Swimathon T-shirt, food and refreshments.

Calling all QUB Staff and Students! Do you feel out of shape? Do you want to get active and have some fun at the same time? Why not take part in the Queen's Sport regular run/jog/walk programme twice a week as part of our Campus Sport programme.
These runs are open to everyone, regardless of fitness levels. A Campus run will begin outside the PEC at 1.15pm every Wednesday through Botanic Gardens. We will have instructors there to help you get started providing advice and motivation.
Additionally, we have our weekly Queen's Parkrun, Belfast event at our site at Upper Malone. This is a free 5K timed run every Saturday at 9.30am and is open to everyone. You can register online today.

A new GAA Festival is being unveiled at Croke Park on Wednesday 4 December by the Presidents of the GAA, Camogie Association and ladies Football Association. Queen's GAA Festival has been created to mark the fact that in 2014 Queen's University Belfast is to become the first institution to host all four Sigerson, Ashbourne, Fitzgribbon and O'Connor Cup finals in the one year, and at the one venue. Inis Eoghain made light of their dawn start and long journey to Belfast to produce some sublime displays en route to taking the trophy back to Donegal.
After comfortably negotiating their way past St Louis Ballymena & Rathmore, the men from the North West clashed with defending champions Red High, Downpatrick, in the final played in the comfortable surroundings of the Arena Pitch at Queen's.
Strong performances throughout, but particularly in the final, from captain Donach O'Connor, John Campbell and Caolan McGonagle powered Inis Eoghain to a comprehensive 3-05 to 0-07 victory.

The GAA Clubs at Queen’s University have secured the right to host the Ashbourne, Sigerson, Fitzgibbon & O’Connor Cups in February / March 2014. This will be an ambitious and unique initiative as no college has ever hosted even two of the four major tournaments in the same academic year.
Queen’s Sport has a proud history of hosting sporting events successfully and so it is again we are endeavouring to set new standards.
In partnership with local business, the university and the GAA, we are combining all four competition weekends in a festival of university GAA, attracting the top colleges & players from this island and beyond.
