Rowing Academy

Rowing at Queen's has entered a new era in their long and proud tradition with the initiation of a new Academy in partnership with their alumni associations. The club along with the Lady Victoria Boat Club has instigated a major fundraising campaign to enable Queen's to become one of the most successful rowing universities across Ireland and the UK.

A new five year strategy was launched in 2009, covering performance, recreation and facility development.  One year previously, former GB and Cambridge coach Mark Fangen Hall was recruited as the full time, head coach to the club and was an integral part of the success of Queen’s in recent years up until his departure at the end of 2011.  The current incumbent of the Head Coach position is Mick Desmond, who took the position at the beginning of January 2012 and has a wealth of coaching experience at World Championship and Olympic level.

The coaching skills and efforts of Mark Fangen Hall and current head coach Mick Desmond have brought Queen's Rowing in line with other successful rowing universities such as Newcastle, Durham, Reading, Oxford and Cambridge - all of whom employ top level professional coaching staff.
