Deep RiverRock Queen’s 5k ‘Race Round the River’ the flagship 5k race in Northern Ireland

Now regarded as the flagship 5k race in Northern Ireland the popular Deep RiverRock Queen’s 5k ‘Race Round the River’ was recently launched at Queen’s University Belfast.  At the launch event it was announced that this year’s race will take place on Wednesday 21 March 2018, just ahead of the Easter break. The main event will kick off at 7.30pm with the 3k ‘warm up race’ starting at the earlier time of 6.50pm.

Recently awarded NI and Ulster Championship status from Athletics NI the organisers look forward to another fast and competitive race along the unique route around the River Lagan.  Queen’s Sport, Physical Education Centre (PEC) will once again act as the race HQ for pre and post-race requirements.

Kevin Murray, Sport Development Officer at Queen’s said, “We look forward to another successful event with runners from throughout Belfast and beyond taking part in this special ‘Race Round the River’.  The 3k ‘warm up race’ also offers a shorter route for junior athletes and participants of all abilities to get involved.   We acknowledge the support from Queen’s Annual Fund this year in encouraging more students to get involved and also our principle partner Deep RiverRock and all our partners in making this event happen.

John Mc Quade, for Queen’s Athletics Club added, “We encourage those interested in taking part to enrol early to avoid disappointment as we sold out last year.  Early enrolment will guarantee the specially branded Queen’s 5k T-shirt.  We are also encouraging students of all abilities to get involved and challenge themselves over the 3k or 5k course routes.”

Robert Crabbe, Marketing Manager for Deep RiverRock said, “I am delighted to announce our continued support for the ‘Race Round the River’ event taking place from the beautiful Queen’s Sport (PEC).

“With its roots in the glacial hills of County Antrim, Deep RiverRock is a locally sourced water brand and a perfect fit for this much-loved community event. We are passionate about encouraging athletes to stay hydrated and on top of their game, and will be keen to support all participants with fun and refreshment on the day.”
